I am happy to announce that Rapture Gazette is constantly growing, making it one of the biggest Bioshock related websites on the internet.
Visitors and page views have tripled in each of the last months. Rapture Gazette is also ranked at place 25 of the most recommended blogs by its host community blog.de.

The German USK ("Entertainment Software Self-Control") is indeed a nice tool to unmask secret information. Silently, the Bioshock Making of DVD must have gone gold and was rated by the USK.
The USK gave the rating "Free for all ages". Don't expect to watch cruel or gory stuff happening on the DVD (apart from people having cool Bioshock swag, you never get).
The Making of DVD is a part of the Collector's Edition of Bioshock. After another part of it has been completed, we should see the final design of the package soon.

The release of Bioshock is not far away and it looks like magazines try to catch the development team before they leave Rapture and enter vacation.
Associate Producer Joe McDonagh was interviewed by Greg Howson for Guardian Ulimitied. Meanwhile, Ken Levine was asked by Steve Boxer at Spong.com.
The Guardian Ulimitied interview does not surprise Bioshock fans, but the Ken Levine interview has some highlights. Levine talks about how Bioshock will change other FPS and he even mentions the words "BioShock 2 and BioShock 3". He also talks about how the whole Ard Deco idea came up and how the level design has started. Expect to read something about competitive multiplayer, too.

Finally, cool faceplates made their way across the ocean and landed in Europe.
If you order your Bioshock 360 standard edition at UK online store Play.com, you might receive a free, exclusive faceplate. It's limited and differs from the ones we saw before.
Sadly, this is the only way to buy Bioshock faceplates in Europe directly. The alternative is a bit of patience and luck at ebay.

Today, Christopher Kline, Lead Programmer at Irrational Games posted a reply on the official boards regarding Bioshock's region code.
He said that the main version with multiple languages (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish) will run on machines worldwide.
According to Kline, the version which will be sold in Germany has a different rating (hello USK!) and supports only German and English.
If you fear the possibility of not getting a Collector's Edition in your country, you might import Bioshock without any problems. If you have the German version...expect a yet unknown amount of cuts in the game.
In case you live in Germany and import, you may face problems with downloadable content, I think. You have a foreign game and try to download content for the German version (German Marketplace), which might create problems. That's just my personal assumption.

[Turn on X-Files intro music] There are some people out there, who believe in exclusive plasmids for Xbox 360. They are only a few, but they hope to bring truth to the world.
At first, the brave editors of OXM UK told everyone there will be downloadable plasmids, for 360 only. Bioshock Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey responded, there are no exclusive plasmids.
But now, our editors got allies from PC Gamer, saying nearly the same. In their recent podcast (position 35:41), you can listen to the following:
Tom: "The Xbox 360 build that Dan was playing, had some extra plasmids that the PC version didn't have. They're all free of charge, which is very strange because the whole game's about getting enough Adam to buy plasmids, or at least that's a very important part of it. And they all say download in brackets, and so they're clearly downloadable content that will be available on Xbox Live. It was not clear yet as to whether it will be coming to Windows Live, it may well be."
What have both press teams seen? A ghost? Aliens? Is there a plasmid conspiracy?

Well, apart from these mysterious sightings, I think the 360 review version of Bioshock had plasmids, which were meant for both platforms (360/PC). But those plasmids didn't make it into the game, so they appear afterwards on Xbox Live. The PC version had no hints about the plasmids, since they come with a patch.

Rapture Gazette talked with an Take 2 Germany employee today and was informed that the USK rating for the Bioshock 360 demo was made for Games Convention 2007 (Germany):
"The rating of the demo was for Games Convention. We will show Bioshock at Games Convention."
So will it only be displayed or will it be playable for the public?
"We can't comment on that for now."
The press originally thought the Bioshock demo would appear at Xbox Live. Can you say something about this?
"We can't comment on that for now."
So what can we conlude? We surely won't see a Bioshock demo before Games Convention (August 23 - 26), since this was the purpose of the USK rating. A playable showfloor demo seems likely and maybe it will appear at XBL, too. But for now, all that is unconfirmed.
And don't forget that Bioshock will be relased worldwide nearly at the same time.

Big Daddy statues are going to invade US EB Games/Gamestop stores. In the latest CoR update, Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey informed us, where you can shake hands with your most favourite mascot.
Elizabeth also asks you to post photos of your sightings at the official boards.
The statues will be delivered to New York, San Francisco, Universal City, Salt Lake City, Plano and Bellevue. Store visits will be more interesting, starting this week.

If you surf to Fileplanet.com, you are already able to reserve your Bioshock PC demo. Fileplanet also mentions the demo as "CONFIRMED" for late August.
That's after the Bioshock release and a kick in the butt for every fan, who hoped to playtest the game before release.
Let's face it: There will be a PC demo, but after release. Now come on 2K and confess it officially

While you wait and beg to get it, here is another teaser image I found in a UK online store. This pic seems to come from 2K, but as we know, this is not the final design of the collector's edition.
2K liked the idea of giving the soundtrack CD the look of an old LP (same design in many adverts). While the sleeve case shows the logo of the contest winner, the box design itself looks rusty and not like the standard version. Rusty is indeed what the community wanted for the collector's edition, so let's hope it stays so. The DVD "Welcome to Rupture" seems to be the Making Of then.
My opinion? Nice work! Put it together with the figurine in this box and I will praise 2K every day!
Wet your mouth and wait until we see the final version being announced soon.

The winners of the Game Critics Awards 2007 were chosen yesterday and Bioshock was honoured with the award "Best Action/Adventure".
Apart from that, several editors at IGN.com listed their most anticipated PC/360 games 2007. The result? Just look at this:

The OXM UK review (see below) gave new details about downloadable content on the Xbox 360.
As it was mentioned in a little info box, some plasmids and gene tonics will be exclusive to "Xbox 360 and Live Arcade".
OXM UK wasn't allowed to tell about the specific plasmids/tonics yet, but they will reveal them in the future. Strangely, the editors used the word "Live Arcade". Xbox Live Arcade is the service for downloadable casual games on 360. Is this a little mistake or is Bioshock combined with some Live Arcade action? Time will tell...
UPDATE: Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey provided some clarification:
There is no content exclusive to either platform.
Both PC and Xbox 360 get all the plasmids.
Err...ok, but OXM has seen something for downloadable content. If it were not plasmids or tonics, what was it then?

Official forum member flea008 set the startline for first Bioshock reviews in the press. He provided some shots of the Official Xbox Magazine UK, which gave Bioshock 10 of 10 points.
Forum user Nemos instead hinted on the latest PCGamer UK issue, where Bioshock received a 95% rating.
Since both magazines likely reviewed the final version of the game, an offical gold announcement of Bioshock can't be far away.

Gamespot currently hosts a (timed?) exclusive trailer of Bioshock, where the devs talk about the plasmids in the game.
They talk about what kind of plasmids they wanted to put into the game and how plasmids create gaming experiences, which never existed before. And oh, there is a lot of new gameplay footage.
I also realized Ken's new haircut - we both have the same one right now, I guess!

Today, the German rating system USK (like ESRB) has given a rating to a title called "Bioshock Demo". The demo has been sent in by Take 2/2K Games and was tested for the Xbox 360. It received the same rating (18+) as the normal game.
Incredible news! It fits to Ken Levine's strange comment at E3. But since the "Demo" was tested here in Germany, it could be that this demo will only be showcased at Games Convention 07 (next month).
Every year, the USK has to test the games, playable at Games Convention. But usally, these games or testversions are titled with "GC demo". Since this Bioshock demo hasn't got the title, we can assume that finally a Xbox Live demo of Bioshock will arrive, soon!

Elizabeth Tobey has finally listed the countries of Europe, where the Limited Edition of Bioshock will be released.
It's no surprise for us, but it will calm down the fans in the UK, who where already setting up plans for imports. While most shops in other countries already accepted preorders, the UK was still left behind. Now they will get their LEs for sure.

The BioShock Collector's Edition is available for PC and Xbox 360 and contains the game in a limited edition embossed steel case, a Making Of DVD, Soundtrack CD, hand finished resin figurine (14cm height).

As it has been reported everywhere on the net today, the Xbox 360 is said to get the expected price cut, next month.
The Hollywood Reporter has got a retail source, stating that the release of games like Madden NFL 08, John Woo Presents Stranglehold and Bioshock is setting the right place for a 50$ system price cut.
Nobody has said which version (core, premium or elite) of the Xbox 360 will become cheaper, though. As always, Microsoft has not commented on the rumour. I guess a global price cut will be announced at Games Convention 07, which opens its gates in the end of August.

This pic is about a week old, but it's discovery might still be interesting. The Irrational Games team visited the CVG (Computer and Videogames) bureaus and brought a nice gift - a life sized Big Daddy figurine!
It's seven feet tall and from now on, it's decorating the coffee area at CVG - What a poor ending for our BD!
We already heard that some of those figurines exist, but this is finally another shot.
The Big Daddy has been produced at Studio Oxmox, a German-Australian studio, specialized on huge figurines for movies and video games. As I have seen right now, Studio Oxmox has updated its website, showing the BD, as well. As they say, it's 195cm tall.

Official Forum user industrialvic provided a shot of the Bioshock Limited Edition, which can be found at a Dutch online store (click to enlarge!). The box design with the Big Daddy figurine watching outside is really cool. I can't wait to free the little guy from his captivity.
Again, we can imagine how big the figurine is. And remember, that's not all! The special designed game box comes with a Behind the Scenes DVD and a soundtrack cd, including selected tracks.

German Amazon.de has joined the shops, where you can order the Limited Edition of Bioshock. While both versions (PC and 360) were rated by USK (German ESR
with 18+, it's still unknown if this version has been cut for the German market.
Nontheless nearly every European language (even voice track) is supported by this German version. So this might be an interesting offer to European gamers, who haven't found a shop for the LE yet.

Kotaku.com picked up a nice photo at Flickr, where an artist named Travis declared his love for Bioshock with two handmade wooden plaques.
One of them decorates the Irrational Games HQ, while the second one was signed by the team.

It's done! Elizabeth was a charming interview partner and successfully resisted to my rusted vocal English skills. I tortured her with lots of questions and "Ok"s, but it's surely an interesting podcast. She talked about her beginning at 2K, her work in gerneral, Cult of Rapture, FPS skills, Tori Amos songs and most of the questions, which came to your mind at the boards!
The podcast with the 30+ minute long interview will appear later this week (or Monday), after it was reviewed by 2K...and Amnesty International.

While Americans and Australian people already sit on their preorders, European fans are still clueless...not really!
As our official community has found out, European shops in countries like Austria, Germany and The Netherlands already accept preorders. It seems like the Collector's Edition of Bioshock is not bound to Gamestop/EB Games, though.
Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey mentioned that official announcements will follow very soon.
My tip: Grab you local game retailer and ask for the Collector's Edition.

It seems like Bioshock is now flickering at every TV set in media offices. After EGM, 1UP and IGN played and wrote about Bioshock intensively, TeamXbox is the next address.
Here again, a preview about three pages is provided, as well as two (exclusive?) videos namend "Gameplay Collection" and "Override the Controls" in HD format.
I haven't had the possibility to watch them right now, so I can't provide info about their content.

Today, IGN.com posted a three pages long hands-on preview of Bioshock at the website's PC section.
Apart from talkling about walkthrough experience, editor Charles Onyett discusses the first gameplay moments and more details about hacking or 360 achievements, for example.
The screenshots being shown are not new, but we can't complain about the lack of media at the moment.

I just wished the doors of Irrational Games will be opened for me as easily as for the 1UP team.
They visited the developers and occupied their rooms, filming anything which might be important. 1UP interviewed Ken Levine, stood with him on a balcony, looked over Shawn Robertson's shoulder (Lead Animator), watched Rob Waters's concept art (instruction videos - look below!), went bug-hunting with Scott Sinclair and much more. All got mixed up with old and fresh ingame scenes.
The result? A great, about 17 minute long video special about Bioshock, where we get a closer look into the holy rooms of Irrational Games. Enjoy!

The screenshots feature some fights with masked splicers, as well as fights with a Big Daddy. The last one shows the start of a freeze plasmid being used on a BD.
The 1UP/EGM coverage seems to be never-ending - a fact, fans of Bioshock can hardly complain about!

Today, 2K shows the final Box Art of the Bioshock 360 and PC version. Remember that this is the design of the Standard Edition, since the Limited Edition will have a different appearance. As you can see, this design here features the Big Daddy and the Little Sister inside of a big hall in Rapture.
Discussions about this packshot have been quite wild at the boards, so far. While the most of the community members still like the design, some complain about the whole motive being less dark and mysterious. Others even say the Big Daddy has some kind of Super Mario pose.
While I am quite happy with it, I also have to say it must attract the masses, which are not Bioshock fans, yet.

After the coverage in the latest issue of the EGM magazine and the video with Ken Levine, Bioshock is still a topic in the magazine's podcast.
About eight minutes of the podcast (starting at minute 26) deal with how the editors experienced the game. In short: They liked it.
Apart from that, we don't get any new information or insights about the game.

While Bioshock Limited Edition preorders put a big smile on the face of every US citizen, the rest of the world is waiting for the LEs to come.
Initially, the Limited Edition has been announced for USA and Europe, as well as other major territories. Afterwards, it was changed to "The Limited Edition will also be available in other territories and details about ordering a copy will be coming soon".
Europeans can be very sure to get a copy in their country, but e.g. Australians still wait with fingers crossed.

After I wrote about the EGM article lately, we also got a EGM preview video now, broadcasted by the 1UP network.
Apart from the EGM team talking, the Bioshock footage is the same as in the Micromania magazine. The editors grabbed Ken Levine for an interview and we hear some interesting lines.
Ken for example talks about Bioshock in contrast to System Shock and Deus Ex. Furthermore, he says that the devs were focussed on singleplayer experience to deliver high gameplay quality. This is no news, but Ken then adds that he is now able to imagine how Bioshock multiplayer would be. Does it sound like a MP past release? We don't know, but we will see how they do after launch.

2K Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey announced today that Bioshock will be fully synchronized in English, French and German, Spanish and Italian.
Furthermore, all languages together will fit on the same game disc!
As you read these lines here, the recordings for the German and French version are about to start.
These are really "Sensationelle Neuigkeiten" (sensational news) as we say in German.

The July issue of the EGM magazine features a nice Bioshock article. It's wrapped around eight pages and includes some apparently new screenshots.
The Game Planets Blog provides the scans for those, who spent all their money for a Bioshock Limited Edition...

2K Games finally decided to provide some goodies to loyal Cult of Rapture community members. They are also known als Cult Member Perks.
Elizabeth Tobey revealed the first precious bonus items today. They consist of exclusive Xbox 360 downloads, which can't be bought.
You could own a Bioshock dashboard theme or a pack of Gamer Pictures (shown below).
How do you get such kind of things, you may ask. At first, you need to be a member of the official boards. Then you need explain to Elizabeth Tobey, why you are worthy of receiving such a goodie.
Otherwise you simply should participate in the community or take part in contests like the Haiku contest.

The first CoR community podcast will celebrate its premiere soon here at Rapture Gazette. The podcast is not only meant for community members: I also hope that many will join soon to moderate and express their opinions.
For the first show, we've got something special! So far, she only asked questions, but now she is the one being interviewed. CoR Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey will appear in the podcast and we will get to know her a bit more!
At the moment, the podcast will cover the following topics:
1. General news from the last weeks (CoR main site, interview at CVG...)
2. News from the devs at the board (Voice acting, casino, vending machines)
3. Community discussion hot spots (What was discussed most during the weeks?)
4. General community chatter and atmosphere.

A great trailer has been put on the DVD of the Spanish PC magazine Micromania. It shows a mix of gameplay scenes, including lots of fights with splicers and the Big Daddies, as well as glass corridors being crashed. Some ambitious Bioshock fans delivered the footage in high quality to online sources. As we have been informed, this seven minute long video shows the 360 version of Bioshock.

The French gaming website Jeuxactu.com claims to have new exclusive screenshots of Bioshock.
In fact, some of these 12 screenshots appeared in magazines before. Nontheless we have got some new impressions and they are in high quality!
Guessing from previous screenshots, I believe these were taken from the Xbox 360 version.

Computer & Videogames had an interview with Irrational's Ken Levine about certain aspects of the game. This time, Ken explains a bit about non-linear gameplay in Bioshock and delivers fans little tidbits about the different areas in Rapture.
For example, we finally know that Fort Frolic will be "for theatre, shopping, restaurants and strip clubs...". This was discussed a lot at the boards since the in-game advertisement of "Eve's Garden" appeared at Cult of Rapture.
Ken also talks about all those little details and sound samples, which carry the atmosphere in Rapture. For example, the anthem "Rise, Rapture, Rise", which is an anthem composed by the mad musician Sander Cohen.
In the end of the interview it's all about fish, since the interviewer at PC Zone wondered about the fishes. In his opinion, there were less visible outside of windows as he played.
Strangely, the interviewer mentions playing sessions "last night" - Camping at Irrational Games or a demo, maybe??

In this new podcast by Irrational Games, we listen to Elizabeth and Ken again. This time, we get everything to know about the origin of the Little Sisters...Well, as much as we are allowed to know before playing the game! Ken of course keeps some secrets, again.
The podcast is about 20 minutes long and Irrational/2k also revealed three artworks of the Little Sister. Seems like each reflects different development stages, since we see a slimy thing first, then a little girl you might get scared of and last but not least the more doll like Little Sister.
